Saltycustoms was established in 2010 with the dream of enabling anyone to express themselves through beautifully designed custom t-shirts.

For decades, t-­shirts have been a tool to unite people, show affiliation and spread messages. We are driven by the belief that t-shirts are the ultimate tool of expression. The t­-shirt you are wearing today is personal. It tells a story of who you are.

We are on a mission to help businesses (start-up and enterprise stage) express themselves through custom t-shirts. We make this possible by providing a service that is easy, reliable and products that are beautifully designed.

In the past 6 years, we have over 900 clients, an in-house design team and offices in Malaysia and Singapore.

Ultimately, we believe that, as long as people exist, we will be there to help anyone express themselves.

Story about why you started your business

Shannon Toh grew up heavily influenced by punk rock music, cartoons and t-shirts. In his teenage years, he would be continue to attend as many concerts as he could, terrorize his friends books with his Saltydogg cartoon and seen wearing a t-shirt of his favourite band. It was the t-shirts that were mainly ordered from the US that opened up his mind to great fit, high quality and beautiful designed t-shirts. That sparked the idea of creating a t-shirt brand someday.

However, things did not really fall as planned… at first. After completing business school and securing a job at Ernst & Young, Shannon found himself lost with a lack of purpose. Determined to break out of his slump, he revisited his true passion, t-shirts, and purposed to start Saltydogg Clothing Co, a brand with music and cartoon influences printed on the “perfect t-shirt” (which was created while balancing an accounting job). As the demand of his t-shirts grew from word of mouth, he was pushed by a friend to set up a shop at Youth ‘09, Malaysia’s largest youth trade show. The pivotal moment at Youth ‘09 was the realization that people actually wanted to buy these high-quality, fitted t-shirts in bulk, for their companies. In just two days, 100 t-shirts were sold and the idea of pivoting from B2C to a B2B business seemed like a problem to be solved.

With exciting demand, growth and possibilities looming, Shannon pivoted his venture to a B2B business model and formed a partnership with King, an old high school friend and corporate trainer, in late 2009. Together, they identified the value of businesses spreading their messages through t-shirts and the huge potential to bridge the gap between retail trends and “boring” corporate attire through design. Thus began the journey of brainstorming and strategizing the ultimate tool of expression for businesses. The two entrepreneurs spent painstaking months of research and development, from identifying retail trends to innovating through design to perfecting their product.

Two resignations later, Saltycustoms was made official in 2010 and kick started from a small spare room. With the simple, effective philosophy that great t-shirts with great design increases a business’s return on investment (ROI), Shannon and King fully committed themselves to enable businesses to spread their messages through t-shirts in the most easy, reliable and beautiful way.

Today, Saltycustoms is established and recognized as Asia’s first Apparel Consultancy, holding a clientele of over 900 businesses and shipping internationally to 3 continents and 12 countries. With in-house design and production capabilities, the company strives to be the biggest custom t-shirt brand in the world with the vision of enabling everyone to express themselves.
